Internal Medicine

Internal Medicine is a medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and medical treatment of adults.  This branch of medicine deals with the diagnosis and (non-surgical) treatment of diseases of the internal organs.  Specialties of internal medicine include prevention, diagnosis, and care of adults with general illness, disease and injury.

Subspecialties of internal medicine include allergy and immunology, cardiology (heart), endocrinology (hormone disorders), hematology (blood disorders), infectious diseases, gastroenterology (diseases of the gut), nephrology (kidney diseases), oncology (cancer), pulmonology (lung disorders), and rheumatology (arthritis and musculoskeletal disorders).
